I have just had a somewhat harrowing experience. I was due to give a lesson to a music student who lives next to a church. I always park on a little patch of turf under a tree which backs on to the graveyard on a slight incline. I noticed as I parked that there was a lot of fresh earth in front of me, but didn`t think much of it as they have been tarting up the grounds of the graveyard for weeks. I jumped out of my car and closed but (fortunately) did not lock the door, leaving it in second gear and failing to pull the handbrake sufficiently (I was a bit late). My car began to roll forward and only by dint of springing back into it and pulling the handbrake with all my might was I able to prevent it from rolling into a freshly-dug grave with me in it. I`m still quaking. I can`t imagine how I could have explained myself to anyone kind enough to pull me back out, and my music student would probably never have forgiven me - they live in a village, and things like that are Big News. The funny thing is, my car is due for the knacker`s yard at the end of the month, and I keep getting the feeling it`s trying to persuade me to change my mind. The grave was very symbolic, I find.
