I have just returned from a 1.5 hour drive through some 100kph back roads. Without a doubt this UZZ32 is the best car I have ever driven - period! When I start to work the peddle and steering at high way speeds on these B roads the suspension really responds. For a long time I could never quite get my head around the whole UZZ32 experience having never driven one, but it all makes sense now, the flat roll free ride is one thing, but the crisp direct turn in, and planted body really gives it that on rails feel, it seemed no matter what corner I pushed on through it would just soak up the bumps and bends with barely any fuss, in fact it just spurred me along to push just a little bit harder again, and yet it still held its ground, I look forward to taking it on the track to really find its limits next year with track spec tyres and brakes to match. Where the system makes the most sense is when I sit back and cruise home it becomes forgiving and very comfortable. Its still firmer than a traditional coil sprung Soarer, but it can ride over usually quite nasty bumps and road imperfections with a lot more subtlety, no more crashing and banging here! Having come from from a BMW E36 coupe with M3 suspension and a 1UZ-FE V8, while that was a very capable machine, faster in a straight line than my UZZ32 due to the weight advantage. While a lot of fun in the bends, that car was very twitchy, jumpy and felt far too nervous for me to really push as hard as I would have liked a lot of the time when behind the wheel. That was despite having new OEM grade suspension parts front and rear! Ironically my lack of enjoyment from the ride quality and handling feel was the primary reason for loosing interest and selling it. Ultimate driving machine? I think not..... Toyota would have not been out of order to use that for the UZZ32s marketing campaign! So here I am a few months on with a UZZ32, a car that completely fills the void I had for a car with a compromise free suspension setup. Truly amazing.... and all from a car that is 23 years old.
