I have lived in an Eco Village for 12 years... It is a UNIQUE village because it is on public lands not private!-(All eco villages are on privately owned lands.) This makes my village very similar to any other suburb. We are managed by local municipality (DA) who have never sent a representative to speak to the local community--- NEVER! So instead of being a thriving eco village we are the same as any other neighborhood....We pay the levies and expect the GRAND MASTERS to see to or needs but they dont, so we become apathetic and dormant as a collective.....(not referring to the individuals.) This all sounds all too familiar I am sure. The village is in turn internally ruled by the strongest.....- Who happen to also be the corporates...(yes, sounds familiar). They use democracy to rule by decree but because we have voted over our governance to the central municipality the tenants association is totally powerless and only meets once a year to vote themselves into power- once again....(sounds familiar, yes?). So I spoke out about this and called for the assistance of social eco scientists who understand human ecology, but the locals werent interested because they cannot understand that self-governance is actually not as complex as their misconceptions are.... So eventually, the expert community healers had to give up! I persisted. I spoke out against the internal corruption and malicious manipulation of internal democratic procedures. Eventually one of my house mates got assaulted and my life was threatened 3 times by a member of the tenants association (video recorded). I could do nothing with the video recording- the police were not interested. I managed to get a restraining order from the courts..... but in real life that doesnt really help much when you are dead. So yes, its a big world and I can live wherever..... The point is that we already live in small regions, communities and family groupings but we dont manage them ourselves....we give our powers away and then after that NOTHING actually makes much sense anymore....does it? We already live in small regions, communities and family groupings but we dont manage them ourselves. When I speak about the value of decentralized management people become very quiet... Put it very simply.....In a smaller classroom with less students, there are better results. More focused attention and less disruptive distractions. All I am saying that we dont need a HEADMASTER.!! Just various groupings that are defined by the needs and tasks--- NO POLITICIANS..... Just facilitators and cellphone referendums... Simple, smart, flexible solutions...... Self-governance = Self-sufficiency and self-determination. Every grouping is different....Each to their own One love, many Communities. Many communities form like minded regions and so on... Exactly like we have it now, except much better! :)
