I have made the statement for years that, I don’t have much in - TopicsExpress

I have made the statement for years that, I don’t have much in this world, but what I do have is my word. When I tell someone that I will do something, I do it. When I tell them that I will be there, I’m there. When I make a deal with someone, I don’t have to physically shake their hand, or sign a contract. My word is my contract! To come back to me and say, “Well, we didn’t shake on it,” is comparable to two little boys on the playground that made a friendly bet, and the one that loses doesn’t want to pay up. As men, when we make a deal, it also becomes an obligation. I for one, take that obligation very seriously, regardless of the deal. When the discussion is over, and both parties agree, the deal has been made! Where would our hope lie, if Christ backed out of the deal that He made with us, concerning a mansion that has been prepared for us? Where would we be if, after following the commandments and living our life for Jesus, He tells us, “Well, we didn’t shake on it?” Instead, He has given us comfort and His word, when He tells us, “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” To me, that sounds like a really good deal. Should we expect something in return for our obedience to God? Absolutely! If I abide in the Father’s love, obey His commandments, do His will, I expect to receive my reward. There’s nothing in this world that causes me to think that He won’t keep His word. Shouldn’t we, then, keep our word to each other? Yes, we most certainly should! Anything other than keeping our word to one another is simply a lie. “Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices…” (Col. 3:9) Many times, I have given my word, and when it comes time to live up to it, have said to myself, “I really don’t want to do this,” but I did, because I gave my word. If I hadn’t, I would be guilty of a lie! “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” (Eph. 5:6) So, I ask you, deal or no deal?
