I have many memories of my time in the Army, some funny, some sad, some just plain strange. One that I always found kind of funny dealt with Armed Forces Radio. Over the course of a 24-hour day you’d get about 30 minutes of classical, 30 of jazz, about 6 hours of soul, 6 hours of rock and what, to me seemed endless, the rest country. The rock was “safe” – no protest stuff. With that in mind, here are two songs that were released on this day, 1965. A “safe” song: Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Do You Believe in Magic.” A song never heard (at least by me) on AFR: Barry McGuire’s “Eve of Destruction.” That’s the one I’m giving you. youtube/watch?v=ntLsElbW9Xo
