I have mixed feelings about this phenomenon because a) SLACTIVISM and b) the version where people are forced to choose between donating or dumping the ice bucket is ridiculous beyond measure. But, I’m participating anyway because the idea of raising awareness and money for a charity going viral is a pretty cool thing to be part of (no pun intended). $50 million and counting has been raised by all this! So…I’m altering the rules a bit. ANYONE reading this is encouraged (but not obligated—I am anti-guilt) to donate to and/or volunteer with a charity they are passionate about. Helping people who need help is good, yeah? Also, if you haven’t already, learn about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a devastating disease that cut short the life of one of my all-time heroes, Lou Gehrig. But to stay somewhat in line with the rules of the game, here’s the spiel. Thanks David Atkinson for inviting me. I invite Libbey Van Dyke, Christian Ferguson and David Russo to join in. If you guys decide to post, make sure you focus on the ALS part. The ice bucket is just a gimmick and a nice way to cool off in the summer heat :)
