I have moved house three times in the past two years; but at the desk of my drawing space wherever I have been, I have kept two little scraps of paper, ripped from my notebooks and pinned where I can see them every time I sit down to begin work. 1. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 ) 2. In his pursuit of the dream, he was being constantly subjected to tests of his persistence and courage. So he could not be hasty, nor impatient. If he pushed forward impulsively, he would fail to see the signs and omens left along his path. (The Alchemist- Paolo Coelho) These have served me as both a reminder of my motivation to want to communicate a message with the wider world; and an aid to maintain that motivation. Why would anyone want to write, illustrate and self publish a childrens book? challenge many of their shortcomings and fears through this process? invest everything they had, within and without, in words and pictures?.. ...The answer is quite simple..and may be illustrated in the marriage of a little scribbly picture and poem, which I shall post by the close of day...
