I have never been one to have much interest in politics. Quite - TopicsExpress

I have never been one to have much interest in politics. Quite frankly, up until now, most of it has bored me. Recent presidential elections have felt like a choice between the better of two mediocre options. And there’s no way I would even be writing this right now, if there weren’t an exceptional, compelling reason to do so, and a couple cups of coffee running through my veins. Instead, I should be working on schoolwork, but I feel inspired and a little wired, so here it goes. I don’t think a lot of us have been truly inspired by a candidate in a long time. Someone we view as truly great, with Godly morals and values, who cares not about his/her personal agenda, but wants what’s best for our nation as a whole. Someone we can look up to as a great leader for our country. Maybe this is why a large majority of my younger millennial generation is quite apathetic about politics. We’re uninspired by our options. A lot of us don’t even vote. It seems we feel that it doesn’t make a difference, so why bother? I feel we’ve forgotten the power and privilege of living in a democracy. Instead of practicing the power that we do hold, we look at a situation as hopeless, throw up our hands and let someone else decide for us. Many Americans who came before us, fought and died for the right to vote. And many people in other countries would love to live in a land where their voice could be heard, and their vote would count. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of us take this for granted and don’t even practice this right. But I think someone has finally come along, who can spark the interest of my generation and others. I personally feel he is the true hope we’ve been waiting for. He has allowed me to believe that it is still possible to have great leaders for our country, which makes me hopeful about our future. I’m excited to finally believe in and be inspired by someone who is running for president for the right reasons - not because of his own will, or the will of his political party, but because the American people have asked him to. After his recent retirement, he had no plans to become involved in politics. He wanted to learn how to play the organ, learn new languages, and play golf. But after his speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, everywhere he went, people were asking him to run for president. He is Dr. Ben Carson, and in case you didn’t know, he finally decided to do just that! He was a child of poverty, raised in Detroit by his single mother who believed in him and challenged him to read as much as he could. He eventually defeated the odds and became one of the world’s top pediatric neurosurgeons at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His list of accolades goes on and on. He is a man of God, great virtue, and vision and has already proven himself to be a great leader. He has inspired me to start caring. Hopefully he can inspire those within my millennial generation who are uninvolved, like I used to be, to start caring as well. Let’s look outside the box of political parties, because life is not that black and white. Naturally, we may not align with every single stance that a candidate holds. But instead, we need to have an overall look at the heart, mind and character of a candidate. Ben Carson doesn’t consider himself Republican or Democrat, but Independent, and more than anything, a part of the “Common Sense” party. He has voted Republican and Democrat, which shows that it’s not about the party, but the candidate and the issues at hand. Check him out and if you like what you see, sign the petition to draft Ben Carson for president. Let’s look back and be proud that we cared enough to be Millennials who are involved, not tell our grandchildren that we didn’t vote. Use your voice and use your vote because it affects you! Let’s take advantage of the fact that we live in a democracy, where we can help shape our country into what we want it to be. Check out runbenrun.org/ and tell your friends! The National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee raised more money than Hillary Clinton in the second quarter of 2014! #runbenrun
