I have never been so proud to call myself a Nole. This incredible tragedy has brought to my attention just how safe I was all those late nights I spent in that same library. I remember during my transfer student orientation when the chief of FSU PD was giving his speech (that Im sure hes given a hundred times) I was thinking This is taking forever. I took for granted that he and the fellow officers are constantly at risk for all students, faculty, and workers on campus 24/7. They give us that speech because they are already prepared, its for our benefit to do what we can in order for them to what they do best, protect our campus, our people, and our spirit. My heart goes out to the victims, and I am grateful for the FSU security and police for not allowing it to escalate further. What follows is the unease of it happening where so many people call home, no one should be afraid to be home. No matter what the world throws at us, we stand together knowing the security and police are there ready and prepared to protect us.
