I have never failed, I once told an interviewer. The Marketing - TopicsExpress

I have never failed, I once told an interviewer. The Marketing Minute by Marcia Yudkin Over the phone line, his astonishment came through clearly. Never? Plenty of things dont work out the way I expect them to, I explained. But I dont consider that failure. Most of the time, years later I can see how frustration I experienced or a long succession of nos led to an unanticipated personal or business benefit. I never sold a piece of writing to The Atlantic Monthly, for instance, but I developed a friendship with its fiction editor, a very interesting person. In other instances, my timing wasnt right for success. For example, in the 1990s I created a pilot video for a public television show, Amateurs in America, which never got off the ground. Prior to YouTube and todays self-publishing technologies, what is economically feasible now wasnt then. But what gain would I experience by labeling this or my efforts to get into The Atlantic as failures? Try seeing what works out and what doesnt as equally valuable in life and work. Youll be happier than when beating yourself up over failure.
