I have never felt so gratified today! I listed a post on craigslist for free Animas insulin pump supplied yesterday. I had asked my fellow JFRF friends and the Food Bank, first to see if I could pass them onto someone. I had switched to Medtronic for its two part system- pump and continuous glucose sensor in one. Today, I received a response from a mom who has two children with type 1 diabetes, ages 10 and 5; the five year old had just been diagnosed. The 10 year old, diagnosed at 2 yrs old, is on an Animas pump. She didnt get into details just telling me that she had two kids with type one diabetes and asked if the supplies were still available, she would like them. I had one strange response so I became hesitant as to whether or not I should post this. But, I had a good feeling about this one. She immediately told me how much of a blessing my gift was to her, as supplies are very expensive. We arranged for the childs dad to pick them up today at Panera. Something in me wanted to give even more to this family. So, in addition to 6 boxes of insulin pump supplies, I gathered my old pump, dexcom, one touch meter (all that I dont use) and misc supplies and boxed it up. I met with the father and asked him how old his children were and their background with diabetes. He asked me about the pump I was using and told me about issues they have had with insurance to grant them text strips that work with the one touch meter that transmits to just an Animas pump. I could see his frustration and he told me how grateful he was for all that Id given him (I told him everything else I out in the box when we met) and his family. It just broke my heart but I felt so good that I waited for another response. So, if you have supplies you dont use, please dont toss them! Try what I did or try the Food bank. Its well worth it!!!!
