I have never told any of you this out of fear for looking silly or foolish, however I think if we make light of what I am about to talk about, it will help to better understand what thousands of people every day have to put up with. I was born with OAS (Oral Allergy Syndrome) It is an allergy to very specific RAW foods, but once cooked is completely fine. It is not from spores in processed foods, or a weak immune system, or anything I was just born with it. It is an allergic reaction to completely random fruits and vegetables. Not deathly allergic, but very annoying. Itchy throat, bumpy lips, gums sting. I am allergic to: -Raw apples and carrots (the worst) -Raw cherries -Raw Almonds -Raw celery I began noticing this around age 5 when my mother would try and feed these foods to me, and I would say,mom I dont like these, they make my throat itchy And being young, and my mom being mom just figured I was trying to get out of eating vegetables. However this problem persisted, and even a doctor saw me and didnt really believe me. After doing some research she stumbled upon OAS, and we then discovered that indeed I had OAS.... 12 years later. This was torture for me to describe, and frustrating for her as a parent. The biggest thing I want to bring to you is this advice, so that if any of you or your children are complaining about something similar, to not bypass it, and assume a young kid is always trying to get out of eating his/her fruits or vegetables. And by all means dont just cut out eating them, do research, and try to find alternatives, because vegetables are GREAT, and so are fruits. I love my mom to bits so dont be giving her any hate either ;) She was just doing what moms do, try and raise a healthy child.
