I have not posted about the issues I have with rescues and I - TopicsExpress

I have not posted about the issues I have with rescues and I rarely post the heartbreak I go through with dogs who are returned and they think they have been thrown away. A few months back Ranger was returned a very happy healthy baby after about 8 months in a home as an only dog and the center of attention. Well he did ok for the first week or two and then he realized his family wasnt coming back and the pain of heartbreak set in for him and with every passing day his depression got worse and worse! Ranger refused to eat for me at all except maybe a cup here and there every 3 or 4 days but otherwise he would just look at his food and lay down and cry! You have no idea what its like to watch a baby slowly mourn themselves to their grave and there was nothing I could do to make him eat. I begged I cried I pleaded with him as I began to watch him loose pound after pound and nothing seemed to cheer him up! I prayed and prayed for a family for him for someone who could make him the center of their world again and show him he was deserving of a home of his own. Can you imagine being dumped back into a rescue with 20-30 dogs all the time when you were once an only companion? Its about the same effect as having a child loose their entire family and ending up in foster care or an orphanage! It destroys them day after day and no amount of begging can make them understand! Well today ranger was adopted finally into a home of his own and every single tear I shed was worth it all to get the video of him eating! He has 2 skin children and 1 fur sibling (a cat and they are both not sure of that yet) but ranger ate not one but 2 bowls of food as soon as he arrived in his new home! For those of you out there that think a rescue can take your dog back or take your dog at all and help them understand why you left them....its not always that easy! Some dogs adapt no matter what and then others slowly deteriorate to the point of no return. Had ranger remained with me even a few more weeks Im pretty certain he would have grieved himself to his death! I hope one day this gets back to the family that returned him after having a baby and I hope you know that you almost killed him just because he required a little food and water! Before you choose to own a pet please realize that they do have feelings and they do hurt too! I watch ranger literally CRY TEARS some days! Dont throw away one family member because a new one comes along...and if you cant commit to the life of your pet dont get one at all!
