I have not seen the posts that Rev. Curtis referred to about “karma” but let me just comment on current usage of the word. Many of the world’s religions have a concept of what the Hindu word karma explains. In Christianity there are also references to the idea that good and bad behaviors have punishment and reward in the Earthly world as well as in the final judgment. Galatians 6:7 is only one example. The modern usage of the word “karma” in western society takes the essence of the Hindu concept as a label for the “reap what you sow” idea and not the entire belief system. On an emotional level, the guilt that one feels has the effect of creating, from within; bad situations that sometimes mirror the concept of karma. Good works often create a happier mood which also causes a positive effect on one’s life. Based on purely Christian and Hindu doctrines Curtis is absolutely correct. Perhaps we should be aware of what words we use and be more tolerant of those that may use a word, like karma, the wrong way.
