I have often been struck by the incredible heroism of this generation of Americans, of which my father, mother, and aunts and uncles belonged. I believe firmly that they have a righteous claim on the title The Greatest Generation. One of the things that has always particularly struck me, especially since I grew up in the age of an ultra liberal Hollywood was how much the film industry gave to the war effort. Men like General Jimmy Stewart, Major Clark Gable, and Captain Glenn Miller, among many many others. Today, our country gets attacked, and most of the entertainment industry seems bent on showing how it was out fault and we somehow deserved it, and I wont even go into the outright treason of Jane Fonda during the Vietnam War. I have placed this book on top of my reading list, and cant wait to get my hands on it. In the meantime, if you have not seen the movie, The Best Years of Our Lives, you need to stop whatever you are doing, and watch it. It is, in my humble opinion, the best film ever made.
