I have read and seen so many derogatory things about Australia - TopicsExpress

I have read and seen so many derogatory things about Australia Day. Well I would like to add one last comment to the argument. And this could be lengthy. You are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine. My intention is not to offend anyone but maybe open some eyes. My mothers grandparents of her fathers side immigrated to Australia from England, they were not convicts, and my grandfather was born in Victoria. On the other side my great grandfather was Irish, I believe he immigrated here with his brothers and my great grandmother was full blood aboriginal. I dont have much information about the paternal side of my family tree except it can be traced back to a specific boat they immigrated to Australia on. The reason I am putting this out there is because I can see from my family tree that I have aboriginal and white ancestors, and I am proud of who I am. (Feel free to trace your on family tree and see what pops out.) I have aboriginal family still living in my home town and like most Australians will be having a bbq today to celebrate. I can guarantee all my full blood family are not screaming Invasion Day or Survival Day. Why? because they can appreciate the need for change but know there it a right and wrong way of doing things. To all the colored and more white than black ones, I say, maybe you should take a leaf out of their book to get your point across. Aboriginal people are not a confrontational race as a rule, it is the colored ones that stir the pot. And if the antagonists keep on the path they are on, god help everyone. We will be back where this country started over 2 centuries ago. (I do not say where we started because none of us alive today were there) And last of all, how many people know of the Dreamtime stories of aboriginal people? In the stories I know of, the Dreamings were the land and the people were the carers or minders, never the owners. Maybe some cultural and history education is needed on both sides before taking a side in this debate. I am a proud Australian, proud of the Australian soldiers both black and white, who fought in the many wars last century, to keep our country free. Proud that their sacrifice has given the fanatics of today a chance to voice their opinions. How proud are you?? HOW MANY COLORED PEOPLE KNOW THEIR LANGUAGE ATLEAST??
