I have received criticism of my Are you a Fat Shamer ? article from obese women who believe that I shouldnt be promoting weight loss as a goal because * there is no evidence to support my claim that we didnt evolve to be obese. * you cant tell just by looking at someone whether or not theyre athletic or not. *positive lifestyle changes - is just another term for diet * there is no evidence of a large group of people in the world - who have ever lost a significant amount of weight and been able to sustain it longer than 5 years. * that it is wrong to view obesity and excess weight as unnecessary, that people should just ask their bodies to be healthy and thats it. Now it seems like theres Personal Trainers who take health to an unhealthy extreme with Fat Shaming and then theres an opposing view that goes the other way and creates Fat Faming ! Sure you could be obese and healthier than an undernourished skinny person sure. But youre not at your healthiEST. Celebrate your body at all shapes and sizes, be grateful for her and nourish her - but if in your definition of health means to be agile, to have endurance, to be comfortable sitting in plane seats, to have great amounts of energy all day long - then that might also mean that in order to achieve that you also want to lose weight. Losing weight in itself is not a dirty idea. If your idea of health DOESNT involve you wanting to lose weight, thats awesome - but then dont criticise and reject others peoples choices who WOULD like to embrace a lean, curvy and athletic version of themselves. There are still hunter gatherers living the traditional way - show me someone living in the jungle in Vanuatu, in the plains of Africa, or in the outback plains of Australia - and then show me one, just ONE , who is obese, and then they might be able to convince me that being obese is just a different version of ideal health. What do you think ? Can you be healthy at every size - or is it just being politically correct ?
