I have recently been reminded of some important words and thoughts - TopicsExpress

I have recently been reminded of some important words and thoughts from the past century that address todays issues by a Minnesota farmer and recent friend, Norm Gronwald. He lives near Wendell, Minnesota and is someone dedicated to educating... He shared these quotes with me when I first moved to Elbow Lake in 2008 and started writing a column for the Grant County Herald; Norm wrote to me as soon as I had published my first few columns and is still dogging his goal with research, writing and speaking with a growing group of other interested farmers. No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country. Franklin Roosevelt It is a national evil that any class of Her Majestys subjects should receive less than a living wage in return for their utmost exertions... where you have what we call sweated trades, you have no organization, no parity of bargaining, the good employer is undercut by the bad and the bad by the worst; the worker, whose whole livelihood depends upon the industry, is undersold by the worker who only takes up the trade as a second string...where these conditions prevail you have not a condition of progress, but a condition of progressive degeneration. Winston Churchill If any man tells you he loves America, yet hates labor, he is a liar. If any man tells you he trusts America, yet he fears labor, he is a fool. Abraham Lincoln And finally: If a free society will not help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich. John F. Kennedy
