I have recently seen some posts of products being sold as having been made of italian leather and being sold for what I believe to be of reasonable price for a hand crafted item of its type and size. However it is my professional and personal opinion that said items are in fact made with veg tanned leather in a gator or croc embossed print. The leather probably originated from a bovine south of the border and tanned in Argentina or Brazil with cheap labor and shipped here. It did not originate in the mother land of Italy. While I have no problem with folks wanting to make hand made products and sell them for extra money, as a craftsman who produces hand made products I just wish folks would be honest. In the pictures below is the embossed print leather that I believe the item I saw is made of which can be bought at Tandy Leather which is where I bought the leather in these two pictures. If the person who made said product just did not know what material they were using, well they need to educate themselves a bit better and work on their truth in advertising. (Disclaimer) If you see this and think that it is aimed at my good friend Who sometimes comes to my shop and who I know on occasion has made similar items out of the same afore mentioned material, I am not speaking about you. I know you have more self respect and integrity than that. I did my research and you are not the person who is selling the afore mentioned product and is claiming this inferior product to be something it is not. Please carefully inspect the evidence I have submitted and make your own determination. My rant for the day. That is all.
