I have reluctantly accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge. I have kept - TopicsExpress

I have reluctantly accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge. I have kept my mouth primarily closed for the good portion of this social media barrage, and I will now use this opportunity to get a few things off my chest. I will preface my video by saying that .009 percent of our population has ALS and that stat includes indivudals who have not been diagnosed. This campaign has raised close to $20 million for .009 percent of our population. Just imagine how we could change the world by donating to causes that affect the other 99.01% of us. We could cure mental illness, Alzheimers, Autism, homelessness, and create quality education for the 50% of children in inner cities that dont graduate from high school. Or perhaps we all could do one nice thing for a stranger on a daily basis instead of watering the grass. Please also remember what these fundraising efforts go toward. Most of the time an extremely small percentage of your donations are used for research. Rather, the majority of funds are used to further marketing efforts, which in turn allow organizations to hire more people to do more work, which in turn makes someone else a lot of money. This is not a theory… it’s a fact. My intention here is not to diminish the severity of ALS, but rather to point out that for the better half of two weeks, people have dumped a rivers worth of water on themselves in support of something that affects a very small percentage of us. In honor of how ridiculous I find all this, I have created the Redskins Name Preservation Fund (gofundme/dcv984). Please donate to this worthy cause. 30% of the donations we receive will go to the Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation which Dan Snyder created to provide meaningful and measurable resources and opportunities for Tribal communities. - Washington Redskins - Save The Washington Redskins
