I have said from day one that the YWCA block is the best opportunity for our urban core for redevelopment in the past twenty years since the development of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Complex. The first step was to acquire the property from the State of Illinois, which took several years and key leaders including, State Senator Andy Manar, US Dick Durbin, Governor Pat Quinn, past Mayors and myself as the Alderman that represents the area. The next step is for the Mayor to appoint an advisory committee (at my suggestion) made up of community leaders and downtown business groups to advise the City on key development points that will be used in an RFP to attract development to the block. Lets put our best foot forward Springfield and be bold and creative when redeveloping a block that has been an eyesore for nearly 30 years. Building a Better Springfield Together!!
