I have said since the inception of Meridians Recovery that we as a Recovery Community Organization are the wave of the future in effective responses to substance abuse and some dual diagnosis conditions. Despite the rhetoric of a rebounding economy the filter down effect of ours and the worlds economy is affecting states contributions to health and human services within your community. Community mental health workers are over burdened, under supported, and under staffed. Workers are beginning to abandon once prized positions for greener pastures only to find the private sector is not as robust as once thought. Incoming clients unless entering the county system through the psych ward often find long waits for an intake or are being disqualified. With the advent of government subsidized healthcare a reorganization is underway. Meridians Recovery residential program is cheap by comparison, usually the self-pay rate of $3,500 is less than the insurance based co-pay elsewhere. We are able to do this because we do not employ $150K/year psychiatrists, $120K/ year clinical directors, or $60K/year clinicians. What we do offer is much of the same structure, psycho-education, and environment accoutrements you would see at a county or state run program. Even our sober living program is equal to most rented room accommodations, at $600 per month, in our area plus you get the security of a clean and sober environment with like minded recovery housemates. By the way, success rates for RCOs are three times the national average of the best clinical based recovery centers. Substance abuse is not curable. Read the research and look at the appalling rates of 10% to 12% the treatment based recovery programs your insurance dollars support. The best chance for family members to recover is through a 12 step program supported by an RCO like Meridians Recovery. An approach like this utilizes basic cognitive/behavioral pathways to effect change in lifestyle.
