I have seen a few people condemning Robin Williams for committing suicide. Please do not. While I agree it isnt the answer, please do not let that be his legacy. Many people view suicide as a selfish act, but the truth is often people that commit suicide do so because they believe they have nothing to offer, are a burden to family and friends, and that their loved ones would be better off without them. Condemning his acts may make some people not reach out for help because they are afraid you will judge them. Depression and other mental illnesses and addiction are terrible things. Look at Robin Williams, he made the world laugh. Can you imagine how much pressure he must have been under to always be on? It is so important that we acknowledge each others accomplishments and not just point out their shortcomings. Tell people (even supermodels) they are beautiful. People may think they hear it all of the time but they may never be told that because people assume they know it. But dont just stop there, let people know what they are good at or how you appreciate something someone does for you - this gives them self-worth and doesnt make them attach their self worth to their looks or to one aspect they do well such as make people laugh, play guitar, etc. The next time you have a negative thought about someone posting something on FB (a selfie or drama) understand that maybe they are putting that stuff out there because they are feeling ugly, worthless, un-valued,and need support or a kind word. Every time you go to say something negative stop and count to ten and see if it is really a productive comment or something born out of anger, jealousy, or hurt. Please open the door to those who need it and remember behind every post, picture, argument, and self deprecating comment there is a person that may just need to know someone cares that they exist. And if you are depressed or thinking about suicide, please reach out for help (to family, friends, a doctor or the Suicide Hotline:1-800-273-8255). Thank you to the people that are in my life. You are all important for one reason or another whether you are a confidant or just provided a laugh from a funny post when I was having a bad day. Much love ~ Shay
