I have seen this show and I have been a outspoken critic of it. Again, this is a major issue and needs addressing. Once again, people have taken scripture and do not know the HISTORY as to why certain passages were written. Snake-handling pastors aren’t common, but they’re still out there, actively engaging fatal serpents. Today, news spread that Pastor Mack Wolford died on Sunday after suffering a fatal bite from a snake he had owned and handled for years. The 44-year-old Pentecostal pastor, who was based in West Virginia, was well-known in the faith sphere. What started out as a pre-planned outdoor service on Sunday afternoon at Panther Wildlife Management Area in Bluefield, West Virginia, quickly turned into something more sinister. About 30 minutes into the event, his sister claims that Wolford passed a yellow timber rattlesnake to a church member and his mother. When he laid it on the ground, it bit his thigh. The service came to a halt not long after and Wolford was taken to a relative’s home to recover. This apparently wasn’t his first snake bite, so his family expected him to simply recover as he has on other occasions. But this time the situation was very different and he passed away later on that evening. - Quote from article I want to talk about the one verse those who are Christian snake handlers use to justify this bizarre practice; and, after that, what that verse really means! The verse is found in Mark 16:18; in context it says... And He said unto them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that is believing and is baptized shall be saved; but he that is not believing shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues (in different languages); They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after YHovah had spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, YHovah working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. - Mark 16:15-20 THE VIPERS ARE THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS who were destroying the Torah... They shall take up serpents... The verse clearly says that; but, it does not explain what serpents He is speaking of. So what snakes is He talking about? Hes talking about the religious leaders, who teach the people to destroy the Torah through the keeping of man made traditions that make void the Torah, and thats why theyre called vipers in the text... For example, but when he (i.e. John the baptist) saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of VIPERS, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come? - Luke 3:7 and Matthew 3:7 O generation of VIPERS, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth is speaking. - Matthew 12:34 You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell? - Matthew 23:33 A viper is defined as: vi·per/ˈvīpər/ ... Noun: 1. A venomous snake (family Viperidae) with large hinged fangs, typically having a broad head and stout body, with dark patterns on a... Thats the snakes He talking about! Its the religious leaders! The so-called ministers of God who are speaking of Torah; but, who are destroying the Torah by teaching people to keep the traditions of men in the place of Torah! If you read the gospels, with even just a little bit of discernment, you see that Messiah always spoke against them and their traditions (that make void, that destroy) the Torah! Now, I must say this, I also find that those who claim to be clergy often attack or spread gossip about those who are in deliverance ministry and I find that to be rather disturbing as well. Its interesting how some clergy choose to believe in God but refuse to believe in the devil. I find that rather disturbing. But, thats another topic for another day. cnn/2014/02/16/us/snake-salvation-pastor-bite/index.html?sr=fb021614pastorbitten130p
