I have seen too many disasters by families of origin, who have shunned their offspring for decades, treated them like dirt, and then when the person passes away, feel entitled to take away their assets (because they have the legal green light), including trashing the dignity of the surviving lover. Not good. If possible where you live, get married, get a will. ie: This scenario just happened again, a little over a month ago. DM
