I have shared on FB that we are trying, in many ways, to reduce our monthly expenditures in preparation for Bryans retiring from the Post Office sometime in 2015-2016 (the process can take 6-9 months). One of the ways has been my reducing/eliminating some of the prescriptions that I am supposed to take. I have 13-15 prescriptions at any one time. Two of them are on an as needed basis and so I dont have to fill them monthly. But the rest of them are daily use. Sometimes we dont see the effect of a medication as easily as we do others and so we think it isnt really necessary. Because my Symbicort (long lasting inhaler for my COPD) and my Rhinocort Aqua (allergic Rhinitis nasal spray) are each a $45.00 co-pay I elected not to take them. Saving a $100 a month seemed a better idea. I saw my Pulmonologist yesterday to get his approval for my hernia repair/colon release surgery and was told, in no uncertain terms. that I HAVE to use both prescriptions because of the severity of my COPD. I guess I forgot that the Nasal allergies produce post-nasal drip that contributes to fluid in my respiratory system and the inhaler helps to condition the lining of my lungs so that I am getting enough oxygen and dont have to use my emergency inhaler as often. The Pulmonologist wants me back on both meds for at least 2 weeks, preferably a month, to get my airways at optimal conditions before I am put under anesthesia! Use of the emergency inhaler before and after surgery, ventilator during surgery, CPAP machine immediately after ventilator is removed until I am fully conscious and able to breathe on my own, and mobility as soon as possible after the surgery. He said that getting me on my feet is going to be critical to keeping fluids out of my airways. It is pretty embarrassing to read that patients non-compliance (not using my meds) impacts the severity of my disease...and to know that Im not as smart as I thought I was! LOL I have had to repent of my unwillingness to let God be in charge of my health. He has His reasons for not miraculously healing me, and I am responsible for the greater part of my health problems since the consequences of my actions are bearing fruit in ways I would not have chosen. God has called many men and women to the ministry of Medicine and I have to accept and understand that Gods healing for me can take place through the knowledge and training they have been given. I believe in and use Holistic medicines and natural remedies but for some of us those channels arent the best answer...yet. So I have to combine conventional medicines and naturopathic. Being sick isnt a sign of little faith. Mental and physical illness can be caused by many things and healing can come in many ways. We all have crosses to bear as we follow Christ and mine may be in an area someone else will never experience. Please pray that I let God lead me so that I follow HIS path to my optimum life and not my own misguided one. Amen?
