I have silently listened to criticisms about the deportation of some Igbos from Lagos to Anambra state. I know of a truth that Lagos is the most friendly state to Ndigbo. Have we asked questions about why these people were deported to Anambra state? Why do we believe the seeming lies told by some of those who were deported? The Lagos state government has responded by explaining that the people they deported were beggars, who probably constituted a nuisance to the state. Now, if this is true, it is most unfortunate. Ndigbo are NEVER known to be beggars but what some of us have done is to turn begging on the streets into a profession. The sad gist here is that we are not known to have exported begging to other parts of the country, and this must not be encouraged. It is better you remain at home that move over to Lagos or any part of the country where you expose yourself to hardship and risks, all in the name of seeking greener pastures.
