I have some questions regarding a film trailer Ive recently mastered. First Id like to get some opinions on the general mastering. This was done without ADR, or really a mixing suite to speak of. Its also what I like to call MFY Mastered for YouTube. The goal was to leave enough dynamic range for some home theater systems to not sound completely crushed, yet compress things enough to not be left out on things like cell phones and laptop speakers. Id like to know if Im headed in the right direction as I move into the 2.1 and 5.1 mixing stages and ADR sessions, in the next month? Should I back off the power a bit and not push the ceiling so hard with the dynamics so it wont be too fatiguing on higher powered systems? My own tentative answer to that last one is yes, but Id like more opinions especially from trained ears.
