I have something I could use some advice on. Not particularly book related, but definitely image management, which I know is something we all have to protect carefully. (cleared with Valerie that it is OK to post this here) I paid someone to help me develop a new website and unveiled it 7 weeks ago. I dont think there was any way for her to predict this issue, and Ive gotten lots of hits and lots of great feedback. But the number of actual contacts dwindled to a trickle; its probably less than 1/2 of what Im used to getting. I can track hits in the stats panel that indicate a contact pattern (if that makes any sense). I was honestly thinking about just going back to my old, unimpressive blogspot! I thought maybe contacts were going to SPAM, but Id searched out and put up EVERY defense against them being flagged as SPAM that I could find. A few days ago I finally figured out that its the settings in the contact form that may have caused a bunch of ISPs to block messages from their users from actually sending when they used the form. I THINK Ive fixed it (Ive asked my whole FB friend list to send me contacts through it and theyve all come through). Now Im facing the fact that for 6 weeks Ive had people trying to contact me who now think Im a flake who doesnt answer emails. Im trying to figure out how to do damage control on that. Ill never know who may have tried to contact me... But what if they come back and look again? How do I let them know that I didnt ignore them on purpose? SHOULD I let them know? Would it look stupid/unprofessional to put a message about the faulty contact form on my main page? Does anyone have any ideas on how to reach out, or things to say & where to say it that might help at least lessen potential damage this may have done? Im beside myself about the affect this has had on my business. Ive been feeling nauseated since I figured out that there were so many messages not getting through and I just need to figure out a plan of action to take from here. Thanks!
