I have spent an hour searching for the perfect quote or image to make a Memorial Day post. Nothing is right. Or perhaps its too right. Images of soldiers kneeling at graves of the brothers and sisters theyve lost. Little children placing flags on graves of their grandparents or worse, their parents. Quotes about how it is admirable to lose your life for freedom instead of being kept captive. Somehow it has also turned into the first nice weather three day holiday. BBQs and the lake and camping. All of these things are of course, an American tradition. Memorial Day is a day to remember and honor those who have lost their lives fighting for us and our country. Whether you support war or not does not matter when it is time to honor those who put themselves out there. What I need to say about Memorial Day is that my heart breaks when I think about every family who has lost someone. It breaks because I know there must be such conflict in your hearts to be so proud of your soldier for putting his or her life on the line for something so important but also because you cant help but feel angry that they had to- that they had to go far away and put themselves in such imminent danger. So, my immense and heartfelt gratitude. For their sacrifice and for the life you have to live now, minus a beautiful human who was bigger than most of us. xxx
