I have submitted the following to the County10 website and the LanderTalk listserve. I would like to share some news with the Lander community. An attempt is being made to remove Bob Harms, head track coach in Lander, from his position after a distinguished legacy of 46 years. The methodology of this process has been questionable, at best, and I believe it is in the publics best interest for there to be transparency and scrutiny of the way it is being conducted. Dr. Bowman, the outgoing superintendent, initiated this on his last day on the job by suggesting that Mr. Harms should consider stepping down. Since then, there has been increasing pressure, tactics, an evaluation drafted under questionable auspices… Coach Harms, Harmsie has continually given freely of his time, above and beyond the requirements of the position. He has dedicated the better part of his life to building character, respect and integrity in every student and athlete. He deserves to be treated with such is this process. He is a soft-spoken man who is not quick to boast. I would like to see others stand with him and speak to his dedication and positive influence. These matters will be addressed at the school board meeting this Friday. I ask that all of those concerned with both the proud legacy of Landers high school sports programs, and also their future integrity, become informed about what is happening and let their voices be heard. Full disclosure: I am a former athlete of Coach Harms and also his son, Little Harmsie. Regards, Brian Harms
