I have such a heavy heart with all this Amendment 1 mess. I worry about my familys health, our children and their children, the water and soil, the farmers committing suicide in India, the farmers in Missouri getting torn apart emotionally by debt and life-draining rather than life-giving work, the people living in this food desert of my neighborhood, the kids I work with that have been taught eating from a garden and from your own hands is dangerous and gross, the people around the world and in our country being exploited by our industrial methods, the people on the end of the production lines that have been ripped away from their most basic connection to life and Creation... Its a lot to worry about. And Im going to cope by picking some weeds from the sweet potatoes, starting a new compost pile, harvesting fresh collard and mustard greens for supper tonight, tying up some thriving tomato plants, speaking with my coworkers about what were growing, preparing some classroom curriculum to teach the students to tread lightly with confidence, make some foraged crab-apple jams--all the while praying for steadfastness, grace, and peace in the midst of this mixed up place.
