I have suffered almost every form of abuse, and poverty is worse than all of them combined. There is no description of how much it hurts to STARVE while other waste. I was told once by an Egyptian friend that what i had suffered was far greater than the poverty of her own country because everyone else was equally poor in the poor neighbourhoods of Egypt. They would empathise and never Gaslighted each other. They had cultural knowledge to draw upon to help them survive. i do not know if this is true or not but I have taken her word for it. I was told my whole life it gets better just to have things get worse. Our society demands you cover up your suffering so they an be blind to it.they do it t entire countries, for example painting the slums in tourist countries bright colours so that the americans will not be offended. To pull yourself up by the bootstraps, you kinda need boots... Nuff said!
