I have survived my kidney stone removal surgery Dr. - TopicsExpress

I have survived my kidney stone removal surgery Dr. Anesthesiologist was not convinced by my interest in trying Ketamine as the anesthetic agent, nor was he concerned by my fathers bad reaction to Propofol some years back -- as far as I know he ended up using P. Anesthesia started with him putting something into my IV feed which made me spacey. I asked if hed put something in, he said yes -- he wasnt giving me play by play. About a minute later my vision started rolling slowly top to bottom, like an old TV set having that problem in a relaxed manner; and audio became tinny and echoey. He again confirmed having added something. It was interesting being able to individually notice the introduction and effect of each agent. Not long after that, I assume he added whatever made me actually unconscious, because I didnt notice that or anything else until recovery time. Meanwhile, Dr. Urologist drove his flexible explor-a-tube up my penis, into the bladder, up the left ureter, and conducted a pitched laser battle with the stone, which gave up and came out. Ive got it (slightly charred) in a bottle -- looks like a small blackened tooth. Then he went up the right ureter, all the way to the kidney, and smoked out at least one small stone that was forming there. I didnt converse with him after the surgery so I dont yet know if what he thought looked like a second proto-stone on the CT scan was really there -- if so I assume he got it as well. I woke up feeling groggy and sore, but not particularly in pain. Sent home with a 3-day course of Cipro, a special plastic jar to pee into, and instructions to take it easy. Oh, and a ripcord dangling out of my penis, with which to remove the stent thats currently holding the irritated left ureter open. Dr. U. said he can remove it, or I can -- either way sounds horrible to me... So far Ive peed about 350ml of rich red urine. Its much too liquid to be pure blood, but the color is pretty close. Peeing hurts a lot, wish I didnt have to do it so often... And of course they sent me home with absolutely nothing for pain. This isnt surprising since, so far, the only analgesic I have ever observed to really work was IV Morphine. NSAIDS kill me, Tylenol does nothing, and all of the oral opioids Ive tried so far do essentially nothing (Codeine, Tramadol, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone). The most effective of those was Tramadol; by which I mean that if my pain was a 6 it might bring it down to 5.5, possibly even 5 if I was really lucky. Wheee.
