I have to explain the gun shot bit once again as well as the admin that it created and am still dealing with. On Wednesday, 29 October while driving on the freeway from the Wits Maths Connect Board Meeting at around 19:00 I had a sound at at the back of my car looked through the mirror and saw smoke. It was dark but not too late really, so I was not too scared because I usually drive later than that. I thought it was my exhaust pipe, so I kept driving. 100m later I got off the freeway to follow my route home. The car that had been driving behind me for a while now followed me off the ramp. Just after getting off the free way, my smart car told me I have a puncture, then I realized thats what the sound was about. I activated run flat and kept driving around the bend and immediately decided that it is better to break the rules of the road, do a U-turn on a solid line and drive to the nearest garage. So I slowed down and the car behind me slowed down too. I rolled my passenger window to hear the driver out. You just had a tyre burst, I can help you, the driver said. I responded, Dont worry I will drive to the garage to get help. He accepted and drove on while I turned around to go to the garage. While at the garage and the guys were helping me, a BMW Z4 pulled in and I realized that the driver looked like the one who was following me. Indeed he was - he didnt need anything at the garage, he drove straight to the side on which I was parked and stopped parallel to my car while the guys were busy changing the tyre. I just came back to see that you are okay, he said. This time alone in the car. I was somewhat puzzled and got a bit scared that this guy had come back for me. I ordered the true and it was only when it arrived on Tuesday, 4 November that I found out that I was shot at. The rim has a big round hole and the technicians could not replace the tyre. So I ordered a new rim from Germany which arrived two days ago (26 November). The pleasure of dribbling a German car! I had surgery (not related at all to the gun shot on Wednesday, 19November. I had been driving with a spare tyre till then and on Friday 21 November my spare tyre gave in while I was driving to work early morning. My car was towed home and its been on bricks since Saturday 22 November when we took out the spare tyre so that it can also be repaired. I was told that there is no supply if the spare Tyres like that in SA and so I had to order one from Germany on 24 November. I am sure it is going to be a longish wait. Despite my beautiful German baby being on bricks, I am fine with transport - thanks to family đ The rim arrived yesterday and so I took the tyre to Mercedez Benz centurion so they can put them together. The first thing they asked me was where is the car. Phew! I had to explain why the car cant move. By the way another drama I didnt explain was that on Tuesday, 18 November, I drove to the wits Maths Connect certification ceremony in the afternoon and I was so tired when I got there that I decided to take a short rest in the car before going out, I fell asleep, which is not a problem because I had 45 before the event. The problem is that I did switch the car off (it was not idling but it was on), air conditioner on and phone charging. So my battery died. So I had to call my insurance at the end of the ceremony to come jump start me. My battery was therefore weak when I got the puncture last week and since the car has been parked for a while now, the battery is dead now. Soon all this admin that I have been managing with wounds from surgery as well as the most amazing mass meeting in my honour, will be over. The important thing is that I am fine, in fact extremely blessed to have the kind of support structure I have. Family, friends and colleagues have all been supportive, I have received messages, telephone calls, flowers and face to face words of encouragement. Thank you to all of you for your love and care.
