I have to give a brief lecture on local democracy and local - TopicsExpress

I have to give a brief lecture on local democracy and local politics (as part of Introduction to Political Theory) in a couple of hours. I may be talking of the - 1. importance of levels of politics 2. The intimacy of the local 3. Accountability, Representativeness, Bottom Up democratisation and the Local. 4. Challenging the idealisation/glamourisation of the local politics for it often reflects the prejudices and vile dominance of the status quo. 5. Different examples from various parts of the world that highlight (the positives) as well as question (the negatives) local democracy. I want to experiment and see how effective crowdsourcing via fb can be for pedagogical purpose. Can friends here suggest ideas/events/news that are pertinent, especially for the examples? News that highlight how local democracy movements have functioned to challenge the dominance of the Big Capital or Big State as well as how local democracies have buttressed and nurtured social/political violence?
