I have to say, gardening seems a lot like praying to me. it comes from the same impulse, broadly conceived--an impulse to make a better world and a better you, and one of the things you learn early is that failure is just part of the package. Its taken me years though to embrace my failure to impose my own will on the garden as part of the glory of the garden. Ill make a complete mess of something, and then put some stuff in there to distract from the mess--and then a year later its the most beautiful patch and it gives me peace. Then theres the patch I perfect with a glorious burst of daisies and I love it all summer--and the next year, dead sticks. Then there are slugs.
