I have to say that I am EXTREMELY impressed with my sons principal. She literally sent me a certified letter to be picked up at the post office to alert me to this: OPEN DISCLOSURE Testing for 2014 This letter is to notify you about Cognitive Ability Testing that will be conducted this winter. In December, ALL 5th grade students will be tested using a Cognitive Abilities Test. Cognitive ability tests measure a students overall performance across a broad range of mental capabilities. These tests also often include items that measure more specialized abilities--such as verbal and numerical skills--that predict scholastic performance in educational programs. Another basis for using a cognitive ability test is to assess students’ reasoning and problem-solving abilities so teachers can help students recognize their strengths as learners and identify ways to develop a student’s ability to think critically. Your school’s testing week(s) is/are _______Dec. 1, 2014______ _____________. If you would prefer your child not be screened, please inform your child’s teacher prior to the test date.
