I have to tell you before the rest of the world that last evening at around 1856 hrs , three gun shots were reported by sector two in the Ngulia Rhino sanctuary. It was already night time so rangers were deployed on all known entries and exits around the perimeter fence. Nothing was picked till morning and at 0800 this morning foot prints of two people were seen and they led the rangers to the carcase. I was at the scene at 0930 but further patrols were frustrated by the terrain and the thick lush vegetation. We have a positive lead now so I kindly request your patience and not condemnation. The poaching trend has now shifted to shooting wildlife just before sun set such that they are always 12 hours ahead of patrol teams. I have said it here before that without night technology we are likely to lose all wildlife. We need thermal imagers that penetrate thick bushes day and night, mobile radar units that can cover just 15 kilometers and night viewing goggles.
