I have to tell you how heartbreaking some of our 844 calls are. This afternoon I got a call from a young man, looking for help for himself, his pregnant fiance and 2 yo son. Unfortunately, I didnt have a good answer for him, they have been calling shelters, they are all full ( except the VOA who doesnt accept children). They are living in their vehicle. Do you have any idea how difficult and painful it is to tell people you dont have any answers for them? I was able to give them a name of one shelter for the mom and son to try. The young man was very gracious, thanked me for trying to help, and thanked me for all our organization does. I was in tears when I hung up. Something sure needs to change in our society, so families arent living in their vehicles. This young man works.....but they have spent all their money on hotel rooms, trying to not live in their vehicle. So, so sad.
