I have tried something new for the last two days, and so far so good: I have turned away from six purchases so far that were not essentials. I am marking them on a tally sheet in my day planner, and at the end of the week I want to see how many things I didnt buy that I could have purchased but didnt need. Yesterday I was tempted to purchase a large rubber stamp in the shape of a Christmas tree that said the word Joy on it, a pair of running pants, and a salad for lunch when I had lunch in the freezer already. Today I was tempted to purchase burlap placemats on Etsy that have our monogram on them, a pair of boots that were a good price on Zappos, and I almost made a trip to the grocery store that was unnecessary because I already had dinner ready to go in the fridge, but what I had pre-prepared didnt sound good. I think I saved our family about $250 in the last two days on stuff we didnt need. What if I could do this for a week? For a month?! Anyone else want to try this challenge with me? Post below some temptations you avoided that you are proud of and that saved your family money. (and those placemats were super cute FYI....)
