I have two stories that stick out in my mind. I went to Carolina for my grad degree and one of my classes was a lit class with Cope. In his class he had a requirement that every student give a presentation about band music. You stood up and presented a few pieces you had researched. The day of my presentation I decided not to dress particularly well and when I got up to present Cope said, Mr. Gantt Im glad you decided to dress up today. Without missing a beat I replied, Well this morning as I was standing in my towel deciding what to wear I wondered what would Impress you. I said it pretty dry, and I was saying it I thought Aaron you are running off your mouth again. To my surprise his reply was, touché with a great laugh. I attended Carolina on my own dime and first semester of year two I got an unexpected refund check for several thousand dollars. When I inquired to financial aid they said I had received a band scholarship. Unknown to me a GA had given up his scholarship money to play in the band and Cope decided to give that money to me. I was very grateful. He didnt have to do that, and when I thanked him for it in his office he told me that he thought I was very deserving of it. Cope thank you for the laughs there were always plenty, and thank you for what you did for so many.
