I have watched the debate go back and forth for weeks. I have a few questions... 1) how many jobs will be lost by consolidating the elementary schools? Teachers, paras, janitors, secretaries and support staff? 2) they say buildings will either be torn down or sold...so, does that mean you cannot guarantee they wont sit vacant? 3) if building new, why no new building for IMS...isnt it old? Arent there problems? I live close and see work going on there...are we wasting money there? SOMEONE said only 18% of students walk. But who found that number? 4) I have lived in this town for 29 years, raised 3 children all having gone thru IOLA school. Worked 12 years as a paraprofessional. My husband has been here for 53 years, an IHS graduate,Iola business owner and tax payer. Sugar coating the sales tax does not mean its going away. We pay one of the largest sales taxes around as is. But, my #4 is this...there are lies being told. I dont have children that attention Iola schools any longer, but my grandchildren do, and I want them to have the same home town feel, the same tradition and same hope for the hope for the future. On another note...we have several teachers that are older, should we get rid of them too so we can move into the future???
