I have written to the Consulate-General of The Republic of Singapore in Johor, Malaysia, expressing my concern about the Singapore citizen detained in Johor, Malaysia, for 4 days for allowing a Buddhist group to worship in a prayer room meant for Muslims in his resort. Although I agree with the opinion that perhaps the detained resort owner could have exercised more caution in allowing a group from one religion to use a prayer room meant strictly for another, I feel that it is excessive to detain him for four days. I have asked the Consul what (or if any) consular assistance has been provided to the citizen who is detained.
