I havent ever seen The Newsroom, but I feel like Im going to have to start. There are a lot of reasons that living in the USA is pretty great, but to claim that we are the greatest country in the world is absurd. There was a time when we probably were. We werent perfect, but we challenged the ideas of whats necessary to be a successful state. We did things that were novel and new, and we built and discovered things that have transformed the world for the better. But thats not where we are today. We arent the greatest and continuing to claim that we are is just another symptom of our ever growing hubris. We fight to quickly and too often, we dont serve our people properly in healthcare, education, or social services, and our understanding of our constitution is frozen in the 1800s. The first step is recognizing that we have a problem. The next is doing something about it. Thank you Molly DeWolf Swenson (COO of RYOT) for sharing.
