I havent had any problems with Windows 8 on the laptop, so I finally upgraded the main machine. Win7 had developed some weird quirks over time, nothing critical, but annoying. Meanwhile Win8 is noticeably snappier and apparently more rugged. Next up is the upgrade to 8.1 and a start menu add-on. If you regard the Modern interface as a graphic start menu, it can be convenient. The uproar about any operating system upgrade is usually more about resistance to change than anything else. The one change I dont like isnt Win8, its Microsoft in general. The ribbon interface on various programs doesnt make things simpler. Things that used to be easy to find are now near-impossible to find. The ribbon might be a good idea, but the way its organized isnt.
