I havent spoken a word against the officials for making this call, - TopicsExpress

I havent spoken a word against the officials for making this call, and I still wont, because the rule the officials applied was applied correctly and Ive seen it happen before (no matter how bad I feel for Dez Bryant). I dont agree with the rule itself- I think the complex and arduous nature of the rule is incongruous to the simplicity of the problem it seeks to remedy - but an officials job isnt to make the rules, it is to apply them as they are written - and I believe the refs did that competently (no matter how much the consequences pain me). That said, this Forbes article raises a point I hadnt considered. Interestingly, this author contends that the rule applied was the incorrect rule, and that the catch wasnt just a catch, it was probably a touchdown, but at minimum, a completed pass. In other words, he believes the rule that was applied, despite that it was applied correctly, was inapplicable under the circumstances. If youre still interested in the ins and outs of this call, this perspective is worth the read. forbes/sites/rogergroves/2015/01/12/the-catch-that-wasnt-really-was/
