I heard a rather disturbing story last night that someone is intentionally leaving tainted meat around the reserve with the intention of thinning out the excessive dogs by making them sick. I certainly hope that is not the case! We have bylaws and they need to be applied to people who have too many pets or cannot control the one or two they have. It is just plain cruel to intentionally leave harmful substances around -- with all the uncontrolled dogs running loose in our area they carry everything from bones to garbage and remnants of moose and deer butchering onto our lot and of course our dogs find it and being dogs they run the risk of ingesting this stuff. This can happen anywhere in the community and even dogs tied run the risk of being harmed if the food is left close enough to them that they can get at it. Watch your pets very closely! Our Maggie is currently in the hospital and has been on IV for 2 days. The vet is sure that she has eaten something that could have killed her had we not taken her in when we did. This is not a stray dog. She is our pet of almost 10 years, she is spayed, has all of her shots up to date, we paid for tags for her (which I thought were supposed to be mandatory to help pay for animal control), and she is a member of our family. If every pet in the community were taken care of like this we would not be in the situation where somebody decides that since the bylaws are not working they will take matters into their own hands.
