I heard an odd and fascinating tidbit while listening to Chris Hayes on All In. According to The Nation, CADCA (the community anti-drug coalition of America) attached to Department of Justice anti-drug efforts and grants, is heavily funded by Purdue Pharma and other makers of oxycontin. Apparently, marijuana cuts into their profits from prescription opioids. So CADCA does not lobby to improve prescription policies for addictive but legal narcotics. Instead, it lobbies against pot as a gateway drug. I had noticed a lot of Zombie Apocalypse warnings about pot from folks attached to CADCA and wondered why. I just assumed it was a Department of Justice peculiarity. Check it out.
