I heard this wrenching, piteous song at a black funeral last week. It echoes Christopher Hitchens observation that religion is the desire to be a slave, to find ones place in a kingdom that is not set up for our needs, but for Gods. It is to accept loss and abuse, knowing its optional for God, then turning to that same God for comfort. Truth is Im tired Options are few Im trying to pray But where are you? Im all churched out Hurt and abused I cant fake Whats left to do? Take Me To The King I dont have much to bring My hearts torn into pieces Its my offering Lay me at the throne Leave me there alone To gaze upon Your glory And sing to You this song Please Take Me To The King
